THE INCREDIBLE HULK WOMAN

Format: 1 x 60'

Channel: CHANNEL 5

In this Extraordinary People documentary, we follow the story of Helen Stephens - dubbed 'The Incredible Hulk Woman' - in her quest for diagnosis and treatment of her highly rare medical condition.

Helen Stephens, a West Midlands mum of three, suffers the symptoms of one of the rarest neurological conditions in the world – stiff person syndrome (SPS). Suddenly, and without warning, her legs and arms turn rigid and start to spasm. Helen describes agonising pain and the feeling of muscles stiffening and tearing inside her own body… as she turns into what has been dubbed ‘The Incredible Hulk Woman’.

Helen has been suffering attacks for 14 years, but now they are becoming increasingly extreme. In this heartfelt documentary, we follow Helen in her struggle for a future, and a clear diagnosis and treatment for her extraordinary situation. Can new medical advances give her the solution she has been longing for?

The Incredible Hulk Woman is Transparent Television’s latest hour-long documentary for theExtraordinary People strand on Channel 5, joining our previous productions The Baby With A New Face and 7 New Faces In 7 Days.
